Over 4.85 million citizens in Hesse are invited to cast their votes on Sunday (from 8:00 am) for the European election. This includes approximately 100,000 individuals aged 16 or 17. This is the first time these young voters can participate in a state-wide poll. Everyone - male and female - will determine the distribution of seats in the European Parliament, which meets in both Brussels and Strasbourg. 720 representatives are elected.

During the 2019 European election in Hessen, the CDU secured the highest number of votes with 25.8%. The Greens came in second with 23.4%. The SPD received 18.4% of the votes, the AfD got 9.9%, the FDP obtained 6.4%, and the Left achieved 4.4%. Five years ago, voter turnout in Hesse was 58.4%.
