Over 300 Egyptian pilgrims perished during Hajj, a sacred Islamic event, in Saudi Arabia.
As per foreign officials, around 60 Jordanians have unfortunately lost their lives. Previously, Iran, Tunisia, Indonesia, and Senegal had confirmed deaths.
The Hajj is one of the fundamental practices in Islam, a pilgrimage that is expected of every healthy Muslim who can afford it, at least once in their lifetime. The temperatures in the area have been excessively high, over 40 degrees Celsius, in the recent days.
Several of the practices are carried out outside and on foot, making it especially grueling for elderly individuals. Saudi Arabia initially kept silent about casualties during this year's Hajj. According to the authorities, over 10,000 individuals were treated last year, with 10% of them suffering from heat exhaustion.
