- Over 200 teaching posts in the state of Bremen are vacant

At the start of the new school year, there are 201 unfilled teaching positions in the German state of Bremen. In the city of Bremen, 75 positions are open, said Senator for Education Sascha Aulepp. In Bremerhaven, a solution has not yet been found for 126 positions. "I'm also very concerned," said the SPD politician. However, Bremen is faring better than other federal states - despite a significant increase in student numbers.

Compared to the previous school year, around 1,100 more children and young people are now attending general schools in the city of Bremen, the Senator announced. Therefore, an additional 90 classes have been set up there. Around 61,000 children and young people attend school in Bremen.

To attract more teachers, the education department is continuing to focus on attracting career changers. Additionally, teachers have been transferred to other schools, said Aulepp. "This was achieved through mutual agreement. We didn't have to enforce or order any transfers." The teacher supply rate in the city of Bremen is around 98 percent.

Due to the increased student enrollment, an additional 90 classes have been established in the city of Bremen this school year. Despite the high demand, the teacher supply rate in the city remains substantial at approximately 98%.
