Over 100 injured in Frankfurt: special commission investigates
Following the serious riots at the Bundesliga match between Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart, a special commission has begun investigations. SOKO 2511 is tasked with investigating the incidents behind the Nordwestkurve on Saturday and is investigating, among other things, assault on law enforcement officers, as the Frankfurt police announced late on Sunday evening.
According to the police, more than 100 people were injured during the incident by police and stewards alone. "As of today's investigation, 59 injured members of the security service and 57 injured police officers have been recorded by the police. There is currently no reliable information on injured attackers," the statement said.
According to Eintracht board member Philipp Reschke, there is "different information and different opinions" about the cause of the riots. According to the police, Frankfurt supporters had attacked some stewards and rescue workers during an access control to the fan block three quarters of an hour before kick-off.
The police officers called to the scene by the stewards were massively attacked by Eintracht fans when they arrived. "Among other things, there were numerous targeted throws of bottles, pyrotechnics and heavy iron bars", the police report stated.
The police corrected their own post on social media on Saturday in the statement. "The information initially published by the Frankfurt police via the short message service X that the participants in the confrontation in front of Block 40 were rival fan groups was based on an incorrect assessment of the events in the dynamic operational situation and is hereby revised", it said.
Eintracht will also review the incident. "In the coming days, we will turn over every stone and put every piece of the mosaic together in order to have an accurate picture of how these scenes came about," announced Reschke.
The investigation by the special commission SOKO 2511 also includes examining the role of Eintracht Frankfurt fans in the assault on law enforcement officers during the Bundesliga match. Regrettably, the chaos at the game resulted in many soccer fans being hurt, with 59 security personnel and 57 police officers injured.
