Over 10 individuals perished in a drone assault on a Gaza school functioning as a refuge.
The Al-Nazla school in Saftawy, a town near Jabaliya, was functioning as a temporary refuge for people fleeing violence. When a missile strike happened, an eyewitness named Saleh Al-Aswad from Jabaliya described how his son-in-law was hurt during the attack. The witness revealed that a dad providing for his children by making bread, presuming this was a safe area, was slain together with his daughter, Afnan, and his son, Mohamed.
Media outlet CNN captured images of health professionals from Sheikh Radwan clinic attending to bodies wrapped in white linens. CNN also had communicated with the Israeli military but had not yet gotten a response.
Now, Gaza's humanitarian situation is deteriorating further. On a certain Saturday morning, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) conveyed that the healthcare system in Gaza is faltering since access to hospitals and facilities is limited due to diminishing supplies and Israeli strikes.
The report mentioned that by Friday, 15 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza were only partially functional, 21 hospitals were totally shut down, and there were six operational field hospitals, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). It detailed how existing hospitals are working at over four times the designated bed capacity as stated by the Gaza Ministry of Health.
OCHA indicated that the deficiency in fuel, healthcare resources, and equipment is perilously compromising the operation of the remaining healthcare centers.
To raise awareness, the director of Kuwait Hospital in Rafah posted a video message on WhatsApp, urging the WHO to maintain the hospital's operation and prevent its shutdown by supplying it with the required fuel. In his video appeal, Dr. Suhaib al-Homs shares that the Kuwait Hospital is now the lone operative hospital in central Rafah, where distressed individuals can seek aid continuously as the nearby field hospitals are challenging to access without an ambulance.
Dr. al-Homs asserts, "We are warning of the mounting health crisis as hospitals are shutting down, and the collapse of the healthcare sector."
The UN aid agency expressed concern that some displaced residents in central Gaza are now enduring only 3% of the standard daily water requirements, which might lead to an amplified outbreak of infectious diseases, particularly in children under five years old.
Last week, the World Health Organization's chief requested that Israel remove all constraints on humanitarian assistance entering the Gaza Strip, explaining that the primary pathway for critical medical support to get into Gaza from Egypt has been blocked due to an ongoing Israeli military operation in the southern Gaza city of Rafah.
