Local Court in Mainz - Outside a pub, a person gets assaulted and eventually passes away; a court case ensues.

A trial is taking place for a man accused of causing fatal injuries to another individual in a scuffle outside a bar in Mainz, Germany. He is being charged with causing bodily harm leading to death.

This event took place early morning of 30th November 2021. Witnesses reported that the 39 year old-victim had irritated both staff and other patrons at the bar, acting drunk and making inappropriate remarks to some of the women present. The victim is said to have approached a group of friends that included the 23-year-old defendant and his brother. A fight broke out at the bar's entrance, during which the defendant is alleged to have struck the man. He fell back on the asphalt and hit his head, resulting in his demise a couple of days later.

The defense attorney for the accused began the trial on Thursday by remaining silent in court. He has also revealed his disapproval of certain pieces of evidence held by the investigation team, claiming they should not have been used. Evidence provided reportedly included data from the Luca app, which stored the contact details of guests from bars and restaurants during COVID-19. The legal representative of the defendant also insinuated that a private conversation had been illegally recorded and then submitted to the prosecutors. The prosecution stated that they would address these claims later.

The victim had allegedly disturbed people and staff at the bar that evening, heading over to other guests' plates and making lewd comments to a female friend of one of the defendants while they were playing table soccer in a separate room. The man was then kicked out of the bar after he criticized the women at the door. The entire trial is currently slated to span over 5 more sessions until July.
