Otto Ruppaner has won the run-off election in Leinfelden-Echterdingen (Esslingen district). According to preliminary election results, he achieved 53.28% of the vote, as the town announced on its website on Sunday evening. He thus prevailed over Raiko Grieb, who, according to city figures, achieved 46.72 percent. The voter turnout was 39 percent.

With his election victory, Ruppaner, who was born in 1982, will change seats in the town hall. He is currently mayor of Köngen ( Esslingen district), a community of just under 10,000 inhabitants. He was supported in the election campaign by the Free Voters.

Ruppaner succeeds incumbent Roland Klenk (CDU). Klenk announced his resignation in April. Klenk was elected Lord Mayor of Leinfelden-Echterdingen for the first time in 2001.

The run-off election was necessary because none of the candidates achieved an absolute majority of votes in the mayoral election two weeks ago. According to city figures, Ruppaner achieved 35.9 percent of the vote two weeks ago, while Grieb received 25.01 percent. Around 30,000 of Leinfelden-Echterdingen's almost 40,000 inhabitants were eligible to vote in the run-off election.
