Awards - Oscar harbinger: US association picks ten best films of 2023
The dramas"Killers of the Flower Moon", "Oppenheimer", "Maestro" and "May December" are among the ten best films of 2023 according to the renowned American Film Institute (AFI).
The comedy "Barbie", the satire "American Fiction" and the fantasy film "Poor Things" are also among the top candidates, the association announced. The filmmakers are to be honored at an awards ceremony on January 12.
Other AFI favorites include the independent romance "Past Lives", the tragicomedy "The Holdovers" and the animated adventure "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse".
The annual selection by film experts and critics is seen as a precursor to the subsequent Oscar ceremony. Selected AFI films are often among the Oscar contenders in the "Best Film" category.
