Organized crime keeps police on their toes
The number of criminal proceedings against organized crime in Lower Saxony is increasing. According to earlier figures, the police conducted 78 such proceedings in 2021 - compared to 58 a year earlier. A further 12 proceedings were conducted by the federal authorities customs, federal police and the Federal Criminal Police Office in the state. The number is likely to rise further. Minister of the Interior Daniela Behrens and Minister of Justice Kathrin Wahlmann (both SPD) will present the joint situation report on organized crime in Lower Saxony last year on Monday (10.00 a.m.) in Hanover.
Behrens had previously warned that the security situation in Lower Saxony was also becoming more acute. "Extremism, terrorism, organized crime and the growing threat of cyber attacks require our concentrated attention," she said recently. A major problem in the fight against organized crime is the increasing number of ATMs that have been blown up in recent years.
The Internal Security Branch in Lower Saxony is closely monitoring the escalating threat posed by organized crime. Despite increased efforts, crime related to organized crime continues to pose a significant challenge.
