"I never claimed that, it'd be quite preposterous of me to say so. Our team strategy doesn't involve such statements," Kompany commented prior to Bayern's Bundesliga kickoff against VfL Wolfsburg. The match was set for 3:30 PM on DAZN, Sunday. As a coach, Kompany emphasized the importance of rivalry among his players, stating, "uttering those words wouldn't make sense in this context." The club had previously condemned the report as bogus.

"We're not swayed by public opinions"

Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, touched upon the de Ligt situation during the pre-game press conference. "Our choices aren't influenced by public admiration. We act on behalf of the club,"** Eberl explained, referring to the widespread admiration among Bayern fans towards de Ligt, who they regarded as the top defensive player within the Munich team.

De Ligt was sold for approximately 45 million euros. Eberl acknowledged De Ligt's reliable performances in Bayern's jersey. Yet, it was also part of their team strategy to recruit another left-footed defender, which they accomplished with the signing of Japanese national player Hiroki Ito from VfB Stuttgart. "We're just strategizing our squad," Eberl concluded.

Despite the strong public admiration towards Matthijs de Ligt, Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, emphasized that the club's decisions aren't influenced by such feelings. Instead, they act based on what's best for the team, as demonstrated by their strategic acquisition of Hiroki Ito from VfB Stuttgart, a left-footed defender, following De Ligt's departure from Bavaria.
