Retail trade - Organic retailer Alnatura with sales growth again after losses
Following losses due to record inflation last year, organic food retailer Alnatura has increased its turnover again. Contrary to the industry trend, sales of just under 1.15 billion euros were up 2.3 percent on the previous year, the company announced in Darmstadt on Tuesday for the past 2022/2023 financial year (until the end of September).
In the previous year, the organic retailer had felt the effects of many consumers' thriftiness in times of high inflation. While organic supermarkets were still benefiting from the desire for a healthy diet and increased health awareness during the coronavirus pandemic, high inflation had put a stop to the boom for the time being.
According to Alnatura, it expanded its store network by a further seven stores in the past financial year to a total of 154. A total of seven new stores are to be added in the coming year, including in Hamburg, Koblenz and Düsseldorf. However, the organic retailer not only markets its range in its own stores, but also through partnerships in 13,700 stores in 14 countries. According to the company, four new retail partners were added in 2023, two in Germany and one each in the Czech Republic and France.
