Germany's top-tier football league - "Optimal athlete": Leipzig marks the ideal advancement for Simons
Xavi Simons felt his loan to Bundesliga club RB Leipzig was the best choice. "This decision has worked out well for me," said the Dutch national player. "We played at a high level with intense energy, which helped me improve my game."
At just 21 years old, Simons was loaned from Paris Saint-Germain to Leipzig without an option to buy. Now, Leipzig's sports director Rouven Schröder is negotiating a new loan agreement, as a purchase is not possible. In his first season with the team, Simons quickly became an essential player, scoring eight goals and setting up 13 more in 32 Bundesliga matches. And although he's in the Dutch national side, he'll take on his previous loan club at the Euros. The Netherlands and France will face off in Leipzig on June 21st.
(On a side note, isn't it interesting how many Dutch national players are loaned to German clubs? I wonder how much of that is strategic and how much is coincidental.)
