New lion enclosure - Opening of the new outdoor lion enclosure at Frankfurt Zoo
The lion couple at the Frankfurt Zoo can visit their new outdoor enclosure for the first time on Tuesday (11.00 am). The zoo has rebuilt the enclosure in the past two years. Now, the big cats Kumar and Zarina have twice as much space as before, as the lion outdoor enclosure was only about 500 square meters large before.
Visitors can observe the animals from three levels in the future. The costs for the renovation of the enclosure were estimated at nearly two million Euros, the majority of which is being covered by the city as the zoo's sponsor. In the Frankfurt Zoo live two Asian lions, their species is globally endangered. During the renovation, the animals lived behind the scenes of the zoo and were not visible to visitors.
