Horse riding sport - Opening day of the eventing competition
Olympic gold medalist Michael Jung from Horb lands in second place following the initial day of the German Championships in Eventing. He performed in Luhmühlen, near Lüneburg, on Thursday, amassing 27.1 penalties in dressage with Ocean Power. The 41-year-old only trailed behind 22-year-old Anna Lena Schaff from Voerde with Fairytale, who scored a superior 26.0 penalties. The Four-Star contest features international riders as well. The second half of the competitors will take part in dressage on Friday (8:15 a.m.) with Jung set to ride his top horse Chipmunk. Defending champion and Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Julia Krajewski from Warendorf is riding the ten-year-old stallion Nickel.
The cross-country phase (12:15 p.m./NDR) is scheduled for Saturday, and the final decision will be made on Sunday (12:15 p.m./NDR) during the final jumping. These German Championships hold significant weight when it comes to Paris Olympics nominations.
