Traffic - Open Salzbachtal bridge attracts many visitors

Many people took the opportunity to visit the Salzbachtal Bridge in Wiesbaden on Saturday. As part of the Open Bridge Day, visitors were invited by the city of Wiesbaden to inspect the newly completed bridge, the southern structure of the A66. On Monday, this section will be officially opened to traffic by Autobahn GmbH.

Before the opening, there will be an official opening of the highway bridge with speeches by Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) and Hessian Transport Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens). The program includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The Salzbachtal Bridge was blown up on November 6, 2021. Prior to this, the dilapidated structure had to be closed for safety reasons. In June 2021, the bearing of a pillar in the southern section of the Salzbachtal Bridge collapsed. The superstructure collapsed and pieces of concrete fell onto the federal highway 263 below, causing major traffic restrictions. The total costs are around 225 million euros - 146.4 million euros had been estimated in 2018.
