Onset of winter gives Hesse an early start to the ski season
Snow and cold weather ensure an early start to the winter sports season in Hesse. Skiing starts this Saturday on Hessen's highest mountain, the Wasserkuppe. Visitors can look forward to 30 centimetres of natural snow and up to twenty centimetres of technical snow, said Jeremias Kümpel from Wiegand Erlebnisberge GmbH, which operates the ski and toboggan arenas on the Wasserkuppe in the Rhön and on the Hoherodskopf in the Vogelsberg, on Friday. According to Kümpel, the Rennwiese ski lift on the Hoherodskopf is also due to go into operation on Saturday.
On a side slope near the Wasserkuppe, on the so-called Zuckerfeld, skiing has been in operation since Friday. The Willingen winter sports area in northern Hesse is set to open on the second weekend in Advent.
During this leisure time, tourists flock to Hesse for its early start to Winter sports, specifically skiing. Despite the chilly weather, the enthusiasm for skiing remains unwavering, attracting visitors to enjoy the sport throughout the season.
