Digitization - Online building authority for Brandenburg launched

The state of Brandenburg aims to shorten the procedure duration for building applications with an Online Building Office. The central platform is intended to be used for the digital data exchange from the submission of a building application to the building permit. The responsible minister Rainer Genilke (CDU) gave the start signal for the project in Calau (District of Oberspreewald-Lausitz). The district is the pilot and coordinating entity for all matters regarding the digital building office in Brandenburg. Currently, the lower building control authorities of Oberspreewald-Lausitz and Märkisch-Oderland are connected to the platform.

"Whoever wants to build needs a building permit. A building permit procedure is indeed complex, as it brings together a multitude of actors: builders, planners, the building control authority, experts and the municipality," said Genilke according to the press release. "It is planned that in the future, all parties involved can digitally process the entire procedure from the building application to the building permit in the virtual building office."

The shortening of procedure times is to be achieved by eliminating, for example, the printing, signing, and sending of applications by post. The entire procedural effort is to be reduced since the technical procedure of the building control is directly integrated.

The lower building control authority of the district of Oberspreewald-Lausitz processes an average of 600 building applications per year. "According to rough estimation of the district, 250,000 sheets of paper could be saved with full digitization of 600 building applications," the press release of the ministry stated.

  1. The digital data exchange for building applications in Brandenburg will be facilitated through the Internet, making it easier for parties involved, including builders and planners, to interact with the Online Building Office.
  2. Rainer Genilke, the CDU minister responsible for the project, initiated the Digital Building Office in the district of Calau, which is part of OBERSPREEWALD-LAUSITZ.
  3. The construction industry in Oberspreewald-Lausitz stands to benefit significantly from digitization, as the district's lower building control authority could potentially save 250,000 sheets of paper annually by processing 600 building applications digitally.
  4. The CDU-led state government of Brandenburg aims to encourage construction in the region by streamlining the building permit process using modern technology and the Internet, ensuring direct integration of the building control technical procedure.
