Ongoing quest for a week-missing British teen on a Spanish island persists
Young lad named Slater, 19, vanished after hanging out at the NRG festival in the southern part of an island, and last contacted around 3-4 AM ET on June 17, as per a GoFundMe page established for the search.
The page was initiated by a friend of Slater's, Lucy Mae, who left the fest before him on Sunday.
Slater phoned Lucy on the following day around 8.30 AM local time, claiming he was lost in the mountains and his phone battery was nearly empty, as per the GoFundMe.
The page displays a map marking Slater's last known position, which is in Teno Rural Park, northwestern Tenerife, approximately 40km (25 miles) away from the festival site.
According to the GoFundMe, Slater informed Lucy he left the fest with two strangers met there and headed to a secluded spot with them.
Spain's Guardia Civil, handling the search for the teen, posted a video on their channel depicting officers scouring dry, mountainous terrain and flying over rocky gorges in a copter.
We've reached out to Guardia Civil for comments on the search.
Police from Slater's hometown, Lancashire, England, said they've been in touch with Guardia Civil.
"Although this case is beyond UK policing, we've offered assistance to Guardia Civil in case they require additional resources," Lancashire Police Force stated on Friday.
"They have stated that they currently have adequate resources, but our offer remains open and they'll contact us if needed."
On Monday, the Foreign Office of the UK confirmed to CNN about Slater's missing case.
"We are assisting the family of a British man who disappeared in Spain and are maintaining contact with local authorities," a spokesperson said.
Last Saturday, NRG festival released a post on Instagram regarding Slater's disappearance.
"The fact that such a tragic situation has occurred has affected us deeply," the festival posted.
"We have been able to provide some support to Jay's family members who flew to Tenerife under such difficult circumstances, and we are amazed at their resilience and determination."
Tenerife is part of the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago situated in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of Africa, renowned for its pleasant year-round climate and a favorite tourist destination.
Slater's vanishing act follows a series of tourists going missing amid hot weather in Greece.
CNN meteorologist Monica Garrett stated the nearest weather station to where Slater went missing, located in the south of the island, has recorded highs of mid-20s Celsius (upper-70s Fahrenheit), with lows in the upper teens Celsius (mid-60s Fahrenheit).
"Conditions have been sunny with some occasional clouds," said Garrett, with no rain reported.
CNN's Carroll Alvarado contributed to this report.
