Lawbreaking activity - Ongoing probe follows stabbing incident in Frankfurt.
There's still no clarity on the motive behind a knife attack on a 41-year-old woman by a 19-year-old Afghan near the Frankfurt Main riverbank. Dominik Mies, a Senior Public Prosecutor, shared this update on Wednesday, ruling out any political involvement behind the incident.
The man is accused of sneaking up behind the victim, who was sitting on a park bench, and slashing her on the head and neck with a cutter knife, as per investigations. After getting attacked, the woman made her way a few meters before tripping and falling to the ground. The attacker then continued to stab her. Fortunately, the woman wasn't in life-threatening condition despite sustaining a serious injury.
The pair didn't know each other, as per the prosecution. Hearing the woman's screams, witnesses went to her aid, prompting the alleged attacker to flee the scene. Law enforcement officers found the suspect a short period after the crime's occurrence on Monday afternoon, hiding in a bush. He's been in custody since Tuesday. The investigation has also focused on a possible charge of attempted murder against the suspect.
