- One year senior ticket - 40,000 subscribers
One year after the launch of the Senior Ticket, the state government in MV is drawing a positive balance. "The sales have been stable for a year, and the high, steadily growing demand confirms the success of this offer. The demand has more than doubled since the launch," said Economics and Infrastructure Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD). Since August 2023, the number of tickets issued has reached over 420,000. As of August 2024, there are 40,000 subscribers.
The Germany Ticket allows seniors aged 65 and above from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to use public transportation nationwide for €29 per month. The state covers the €20 price difference from the regular Germany Ticket price.
The Germany Ticket for MV seniors is only available by subscription and can be canceled monthly. Since the introduction of the D-Ticket for seniors, demand has been consistently rising, according to the Ministry of Schwerin. In August 2022, 18,939 tickets were sold, compared to 39,425 tickets this August.
However, Meyer sees long-term financing as a major challenge, as the federal government plans to stop funding the discounted tariff, including the Germany Ticket for apprentices in the state, from regionalization funds. "This is a wrong signal. We need regionalization funds for the expansion of offers as part of our mobility offensive," the minister emphasized.
Reinhard Meyer, the Economics and Infrastructure Minister, attributed the success of the Senior Ticket in MV to stable sales and a doubled demand since its launch. Despite the rise in demand, Meyer highlighted long-term financing as a challenge due to the federal government's plans to stop funding discounted tariffs from regionalization funds.
The demand for the Germany Ticket for MV seniors has consistently increased since the introduction of the D-Ticket, as mentioned by Reinhard Meyer during his discussion about the challenges in securing long-term financing.
