One hundred public sector employees on warning strike
Several hundred public sector employees have taken part in warning strikes in Saxony-Anhalt, according to the union. Almost 700 people took part in a rally in Halle, said Verdi union secretary Johannes Mielke on Wednesday. Around 130 people took part in Magdeburg. The Verdi union had called several thousand public sector employees to go on warning strike on Wednesday. These included employees in numerous state offices and universities in Saxony-Anhalt.
The union is demanding a wage increase of 10.5 percent as well as better conditions for junior staff and trainees. Verdi criticized the fact that the federal states did not present an offer in the second round of negotiations either. The employers' association pointed out that the federal states must remain capable of acting. Due to the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic and the energy crisis, the federal states are in an extremely tight financial situation. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for the beginning of December.
The union's criticism of the lack of an offer from the federal states in the second round of negotiations could potentially lead to the escalation of actions, such as increased tariffs or even more strikes. Despite the challenging financial situation due to the pandemic and energy crisis, the union continues to press for a 10.5% wage increase and better conditions for junior staff and trainees.
