Statistics - Once again fewer people with a severely disabled pass

For the third time in a row, the number of people in Saxony-Anhalt with a Disability ID has decreased. Approximately 161,000 people possessed such an ID in the previous year - over 13,000 people fewer (a decrease of 7.6%) than in the year 2021, as the Statistical Office announced on Friday. Among them, over 77% were older than 55 years. More than 2.5% were children and adolescents under 18 years old. The application is made on one's own initiative.

The most common severe disability was reportedly an impairment of internal organs (29.5%). Nearly 27% of the affected population suffered from spinal cord injuries, brain disorders, intellectual-psychological disabilities, or addiction diseases. The cause of the impairments was, in the case of approximately 143,000 men and women, a general illness. Over 11,000 people had a congenital physical disability.

The decrease in the number of individuals with Disability IDs in Saxony-Anhalt is a concerning trend in health statistics. This decline, amounting to 13,000 people, may indicate a need for more resources and support to address illnesses and disabilities in this region.
