After several years of decline, more women and men have applied to join the Police in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Christian Schumacher, Chairman of the Police Union (GdP) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, stated that the number of applicants, despite the increase, is still too low. He spoke of many dropouts and a high dropout rate during training. "Despite many beautiful words, it hasn't gotten any better for the police," Schumacher lamented.
According to the ministry, the police recruit once a year on August 1 for the career group one, which is an apprenticeship with the police. For career group two, men and women begin their studies on October 1. A total of 242 people joined the police in the previous year. As of July 1 of this year, there are around 5,900 people working for the police in the northeast. According to the statements, there were 65 more people at the beginning of the year. Therefore, there are currently around 300 vacancies at the police.
