After several years of decline, more women and men have applied to join the Police in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In this year, there were approximately 1,200 applicants and applicants, which is about 100 more than the previous year, according to the Interior Ministry in Schwerin in response to an inquiry from the German Press Agency.

Regarding the numbers for 2024, the ministry spokesperson stated that these are final figures as the hiring processes for this year have been completed. However, the number of applicants was significantly higher in previous years. According to the ministry, for example, there were over 1,600 applicants in 2019 and 2021.

Christian Schumacher, Chairman of the Police Union (GdP) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, stated that the number of applicants, despite the increase, is still too low. He spoke of many dropouts and a high dropout rate during training. "Despite many beautiful words, it hasn't gotten any better for the police," Schumacher lamented.

According to the ministry, the police recruit once a year on August 1 for the career group one, which is an apprenticeship with the police. For career group two, men and women begin their studies on October 1. A total of 242 people joined the police in the previous year. As of July 1 of this year, there are around 5,900 people working for the police in the northeast. According to the statements, there were 65 more people at the beginning of the year. Therefore, there are currently around 300 vacancies at the police.

The Interior Ministry in Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, reported an increase in applications from women and men to join the police, totaling approximately 1,200 in the current year. This figure is 100 more than the previous year, as mentioned by the ministry in response to the German Press Agency.

This year, the hiring processes for Career Group One, which is an apprenticeship with the police, have been completed, according to the Interior Ministry in Schwerin. The recruitment for Career Group Two, which involves studies for men and women, starts on October 1.

Despite the increase in applicants and the hiring of 242 individuals in the previous year, there are currently around 300 vacancies at the police in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, as the total workforce stands at around 5,900 as of July 1 of the current year.
