Vehicle flow - On the A1 highway, there are just one lane available heading towards Bremen due to ongoing bridge works.
People traveling along the A1 towards Bremen should anticipate delays just south of Hamburg, starting from Monday. The steel transition structures of a bridge crossing over a railway line near Klecken (Stade district) are undergoing repairs between the Seevetal-Hittfeld and Dibbersen junctions. This means that only one lane will be available on the A1 going towards Bremen, until June 5th, according to Autobahn GmbH Nord. As a result, traffic built up nearly two kilometers long on Monday morning within an hour of the closure.
Drivers heading from the Baltic Sea to Bremen should take a detour through the A7 towards Hannover and then switch to the A27 at the Walsrode interchange in case of larger disruptions.
Transition structures are crucial components of a bridge that handle its movement where it connects to the road. If they deteriorate, they may break or even come off the road, explained an Autobahn spokesperson.
