Services - "On our own two feet" - trade fair recovers from pandemic years
After the tough pandemic years, the Frankfurt trade fair company has recovered from the slump in sales and is aiming for peak revenues in 2024. Consolidated sales of more than 600 million euros are expected for the current financial year after 454.2 million in the previous year, Messe Frankfurt CEO Wolfgang Marzin announced in Frankfurt on Thursday. "The group of companies is financially on its own feet again" and is "economically profitable", emphasized Marzin.
And he is also hopeful for the coming year: For the 2024 financial year, the aim is for turnover to be at or even above the level of the peak year 2019 (EUR 736 million). "Nevertheless, we are not immune to the possible consequences of new geopolitical risks and negative effects on the economy and industries," said Marzin. In the pandemic years 2020 to 2022, the trade fair company posted losses due to canceled events.
In the 2023 reporting year, around 340 events with more than 84,000 exhibiting companies and four million visitors took place under the Messe Frankfurt umbrella, according to the information provided. In order to further strengthen growth, the company, which is supported by the City of Frankfurt and the State of Hesse, is focusing on modern technologies and sustainable event management. The aim is to expand its international competitiveness. Around 30 premieres are planned from 2023 to 2025.
