Smoking individuals face a higher cancer risk, experiencing shorter lifespans. Deaths caused by tobacco addiction have increased in Saxony-Anhalt during the past two decades.

Data Analysis - On average, smokers' lives are cut short by approximately eight years.

In comparison to the general population, smoke-users in Saxony-Anhalt had a 8-year shorter lifespan in 2022. The State Statistical Office revealed that the average life expectancy among smokers at that time was 71 years, whereas, women typically lived until 82 and men until 75.

Over the span of two decades, the fatalities caused by tobacco use had risen by 6.9%. This led to approximately 1,616 Saxony-Anhalt residents perishing from a form of cancer that could be traced back to tobacco consumption, which encompassed lung cancer, bronchial cancer, laryngeal cancer, and tracheal cancer.

The preponderance of the deceased were male, at 1,077. However, there's been a remarkable surge among women, standing at +70%. The number of males, meanwhile, has decreased (-9.8%). Nearly 26.4% of the deaths attributed to tobacco use in 2022 involved individuals below the age of 65.
