Shot put champion Yemisi Ogunleye, victorious in the Olympics, encountered a setback at the ISTAF Berlin athletics meeting. Just three weeks after her triumphant 20-meter toss in Paris, the 25-year-old from Mannheim managed 18.65 meters before an audience of around 40,000 at the Olympic Stadium, earning her the runner-up spot.

Jessica Schilder, European champ from the Netherlands, ruled the competition with authority. She was the only athlete to surpass the 19-meter barrier, initially hitting 19.07 meters, and then improving further to 19.70 meters in her final attempt. Alina Kenzel, who placed ninth in the Olympics for VfB Stuttgart, finished in fifth position with a throw of 18.13 meters.

Despite her Olympic triumph, Yemisi Ogunleye struggled to match her performance at the subsequent Olympic Games in Berlin. Jessica Schilder, the European champion, however, excellently showcased her dominance at the same meeting, even surpassing her marker set during the Olympic Games.
