Olivia Munn shares that she underwent a hysterectomy while fighting cancer, deeming it the most suitable choice for her.
In a chat with Vogue released this weekend, the star of "Newsroom" disclosed that she underwent a hysterectomy not long ago.
According to her, she lost her uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries during the procedure.
Munn mentioned that the surgery, performed last month, was a better choice compared to using a cancer medication that left her feeling drained and weak. She believed the operation would enhance her life again, which was crucial since she wanted to remain close to her family.
The good news was that Munn couldn't have a child anymore, but she together with her partner, comedian John Mulaney, who welcomed their son in 2021, were considering expanding their family.
"John and I have talked about it a lot, and we don't feel finished growing our family," she shared.
Munn, but who had kept her eggs frozen twice previously, underwent a new egg retrieval before having the hysterectomy to produce embryos for use with a surrogate. And when her doctor told them they had two excellent embryos, Munn and Mulaney were overcome with joy.
"It was just so exciting," she explained, "because not only did we get two of them in one retrieval, but it also meant that I wouldn't have to keep putting myself through risky procedures."
Munn's experience with cancer began in March when she was identified to have Luminal B neoplasm, a form of breast cancer. Her subsequent treatment included a double mastectomy.
"This experience has taught me how blessed I am to have choices not only to fight cancer but also to have more children if we desire," she asserted.
