In Würzburg, oil had entered the Main river, but the waterway has since been reopened for navigation. The city of Würzburg announced that an oil boom was deployed, and emergency services had pumped out oil. The cause of the oil spill remained unclear initially.

On Saturday evening, an unknown amount of oil leaked from a storage facility in the New Harbor, flowing into both the Main river and onto the green strip along the river. The oil boom was installed along the entire length of the contaminated area to protect the water.

As a spokesperson for the city explained, while oil was pumped out of the water, it was uncertain whether it had been completely removed and if oil was still flowing into the river. The boom would remain in place for the time being to protect the area.

It was also announced that a decision on what would happen to the contaminated green strip would be made on Monday. Personnel from the Würzburg Professional Fire Department, two volunteer fire departments, the THW, rescue services, and the Waterways and Shipping Authority were involved in the response. A drone from the Johanniter was also supporting the efforts.

The spokesperson added, "The following paragraphs are detailing the actions taken and the ongoing response to the oil spill." Later, it was stated, "Following the initial clean-up efforts, further assessments will be conducted to determine the full extent of the environmental impact."
