Official start of most Christmas markets in Hamburg

Most of the Christmas markets in Hamburg start on Monday. The most popular event of this kind is likely to be the traditional Christmas market at the town hall, where the expected almost three million visitors will be able to explore almost 80 stalls. Roncalli founder Bernhard Paul is expected there at 11.00 a.m. for the opening. The Christmas market organized by Roncalli takes place under the motto "Art instead of commerce".

This year, 36 Christmas markets will be offering mulled wine, baked goods and arts and crafts on public streets and squares in the Hanseatic city. There are numerous other markets on private property, especially at churches. The number of markets has not changed compared to last year, but the number of stalls is expected to increase by two dozen to around 550.

Most Christmas markets open well before the first day of Advent, while the Wandsbek Winterzauber has been running since November 3 and continues until January 1, a good twice as long as the actual Christmas period. The Christmas market at the Michel, which the parish of the main church organizes for the first Advent, is considered the oldest in Hamburg. Just as big as the Rathausmarkt is the White Magic on Jungfernstieg, which started on Thursday against the backdrop of the Binnenalster. The Christmas market on Gerhart-Hauptmann-Platz scores with a wide range of arts and crafts.

Visitors can enjoy their leisure time at various custom-themed stalls during the extended duration of the Wandsbek Winterzauber market, which runs from November 3 to January 1. During their customary leisure time, locals and tourists alike can browse through over 550 stalls at the numerous Christmas markets in Hamburg, offering a mix of mulled wine, baked goods, and arts and crafts.
