Illegal activity - Officers targeted with firecrackers; 15 individuals being looked into
Following a suspected attack on cops in Unterfranken on New Year's Eve, cops have wrapped up their probe. 15 suspects, ranging from 13 to 51 years old, are identified, and 17 inquires are underway against them, per an announcement made by a spokesperson from the Unterfranken Police Headquarters on Monday.
Key suspects are primarily implicated in a serious disturbance-of-the-peace crime. Additionally, officers are examining possible breaks of the Explosives Act, Narcotics Act, and Firearms Law. Other offenses include property damage, misuse of emergency calls, and incitement to hostility.
The five primary suspects, teens aged 13 to 17 when it occurred, are reportedly in league with a 19-year-old who was detained earlier in Marktheidenfeld (Main-Spessart region) during the New Year's shindig. They're said to have beaten up police officers and blasted fireworks at their cruiser on Dec. 30, 2023, and New Year's Night. The teens are said to have also flung pyrotechnics inside the Marktheidenfeld police station's courtyard. Two cops reportedly sustained light wounds.
An examining team was formed in January, and they searched the home of the key suspects in the Main-Spessart district. During the raids, investigators discovered small quantities of narcotics, banned objects like a one-handed knife, an extendable baton, and pyrotechnics, per the inquiry team. The decision now rests with the prosecutor's office about whether to file charges against the suspects.
