Officer fatally shot in Mannheim, Interior Minister Strobl instructs flag lowering

A police officer's death in Mannheim due to a knife attack has prompted Baden-Württemberg's Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) to instruct officers to display mourning flags on their cars. This order will affect all police vehicles in the region, according to a statement released on Monday.

Furthermore, the flag will be lowered to half-staff on Police and Interior Ministry buildings, and adorned with condolence wreaths. Strobl has also instructed this for the Water Police's police boats. Additionally, a moment of silence is to be observed on Friday at 11:34 am, the time of the incident from the previous week.

Unfortunately, the 29-year-old police officer passed away on Sunday due to his injuries. A 25-year-old inflicted these injuries, along with harming five members of the Islam-critical citizen's group PAX Europa, on Friday. The officer was brought to the hospital after the incident and put into a medically-induced coma. He ultimately succumbed to his wounds in the late afternoon on Sunday. This news has left the nation stunned.
