Toy maker Schleich has struck a deal with its works council during its restructuring phase, as per the firm. All logistics staff will receive employment offers from the new external contractor who will take over logistics operations, as indicated in the press release. Schleich is delighted to maintain its link with the Schwäbisch Gmünd area. Around 100 individuals work in the logistics center, a representative confirmed.

The heritage brand from eastern Baden-Württemberg disclosed in May its intention to shift its main office to Munich by January 1, 2025. Moreover, a new location in Prague will handle financial duties and client relations. This announcement led to backlash in the region.

'Fair Transition' Options

Schleich provides affected employees in Schwäbisch Gmünd with the possibility of relocating to Munich and Prague. According to the representative, approximately 140 individuals are impacted. If relocation isn't workable, suitable alternatives have been identified, as per the announcement. No additional information was disclosed.

As per Schleich's most recent data, it employs roughly 480 individuals globally. Revenue in 2023 slipped to 234 million euros, a decrease from 275 million euros in 2022. The heightened demand for toys during the pandemic has since subsided, and consumer mood has waned, the firm said.

Despite Schleich relocating its main office to Munich by 2025, the toy manufacturer is committed to maintaining a presence in Bavaria, as shown by the logistics center in Schwäbisch Gmünd remaining operational. The new external contractor handling logistics operations in Schwäbisch Gmünd is based in Bavaria, further highlighting Schleich's ties to the region.
