lol London, a city brimming with life, culture, and diversity, is home to my author's new lavish hideaway at "COMO The Halkin" - a private sanctuary with a one-of-a-kind vibe. This place follows the motto "90s meets Bali."

Today's journey has me exploring London, a city that's more than just a town to me. It's a reminder of my roots and a place where I reached professional milestones at the end of the 90s. I took over management at "The Westbury," which paved the way for my career. Then, I opened "Kempinski," stepping into the role of a general manager for the first time, all while young, determined, and eager to learn. So, I stayed in London for an extended period, managing the first Kempinski hotel in the kingdom.

I never grow tired of visiting London. The city evolves and surprises me with something new each time.

Superb location and a posh neighborhood

As I approach "COMO The Halkin," the area becomes more distinguished and elegant. This neighborhood is where London's wealthy residents dwell, living in stately bricks houses with doormen and concierges.

The hotel's location is fantastic. "COMO The Halkin" is in the charming Georgian suburb of Belgravia. Hyde Park is just a stone's throw away, and Knightsbridge, with its fabulous “Harrods” and chic stores, is perfect for shopping lovers. Art enthusiasts won't be disappointed in Mayfair. It's worth mentioning that the new "The Peninsula London" is right next to "The Halkin," constructed at a reported £1.4 billion cost.

COMO The Halkin - Commencing a unique story

In 1991, "COMO The Halkin" opened its doors, being the first hotel of the "COMO" group. I can't wait to see what's in store. So far, I've had stellar experiences with the services offered by "COMO" properties. They manage 19 hotels now, and rightfully earn their place as one of the world's most ambitious luxury chains. I visited "COMO Cocoa Island" last year and it secured the top spot in our "101 best hotels" ranking for luxury hotels owned by families.

Townhouse with a distinctive style

This hotel's uniqueness gives it an edge over other luxury accommodations. It's a classic townhouse, my favorite type of hotel. During the tour, I discover a fascinating architectural blend. The hallway is adorned in dark tones. Solid oak root wood lines one side, carved teak wood on the other. The décor, complete with artwork, offers an Asian twist.

The owner, Christina Ong from Singapore, came up with an innovative design element for "COMO The Halkin." The hallways are cornerless to offer extra security for single businesswomen, making it one of the first business hotels in London to offer this feature.

Upon entering my room, I'm taken aback by the light colors. The inviting atmosphere is a far cry from the dark hallway. Earth's elements are represented through these hues.

My room is surprisingly spacious for London standards, adorned with furniture that could use some modernization. However, I cannot deny that everything is in perfect condition.

The hotel's fragrance welcomes me as I enter the bathroom, evoking memories of Bali.

High-end service and personal care

"COMO The Halkin" offers top-tier service, including a personal butler. However, what sets this hotel apart from others is its relaxed, family-like atmosphere. This contributes significantly to guests' satisfaction and relaxation levels.

Mr. Alain Martzolff, the hotel manager, grants me a glass of wine, then we chat casually in the bar. He's full of stories about the hotel and the city, and I thoroughly enjoy our friendly chat.

Off to the COMO Metropolitan spa

I want to work out, so I head to the well-equipped studio. I find all the machines I need for a great workout. The hotel doesn't have a spa, but one at the sister hotel "COMO Metropolitan" is an option. It's merely 100 meters away.

The hotel bar proves that luxury can also be enjoyed in a relaxed manner.

This lodging is home to "Nobu," a must-visit destination for exceptional Japanese-Peruvian fare. It's where London's elite and wealthy dine, so be sure to book in advance. The hotel might ring a bell due to earlier headlines. Supposedly, a renowned German tennis player caused some commotion there.

In the evening, I enjoy an unforgettable "Moulin Rouge" experience. As a tip for "The Halkin's" guests, try not to order these tickets through the concierge. If they're advertised at £60 and the "COMO" concierge asks for £125 for the service, it's worth pondering if the price is justified or inflated.

Morning arrives, and the street is locked down. Reports indicate that a monarch could be passing by, but the area's discretion makes it unclear. We're tucked amidst the excitement while remaining anonymous. This is a personal luxury for me.

Unlike many British hotels, "COMO The Halkin" doesn't have a breakfast buffet. I'm disappointed since buffets allow for flexibility in time and a variety of food. "A la carte" dishes demand a proper team of chefs and service staff. Unfortunately, the hotel doesn't meet these requirements, leaving me waiting longer for my order.

Yet, my patience pays off. Savoring the most delicate egg omelette, I marvel at its crispy exterior and soft interior.

Conclusion: A Return Visit Is a Priority

This hotel leaves me with minor complaints, but it's still a top-notch experience. Its lovely vibe and personal care set it apart, with guest satisfaction always at the forefront. Pricey? Yes, but given the entire experience, I deem it worth it. "COMO The Halkin" is a covert haven for those seeking an understated luxury escape. Impressive job!
