Community or General Public - Offensive remarks made at boarding school gathering
The Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Education has reported that pupils at a boarding school supposedly said derogatory remarks during a prom night. During this event on Thursday, youths recited racist phrases to the melody of the over 20-year-old party anthem "L'amour toujours" by Gigi D'Agostino. Afterwards, the event was brought to a close and the attendees were sent to their beds. Furthermore, the ministry demanded an investigation by the school governing body. The boarding school will provide a statement concerning the event on Monday.
Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU) stated, "It must be evident to all students that singing such slogans isn't a joke." Adolescent excitement or even alcohol does not condone racist chants. Prien is worried about more occurrences: "Young people have always deliberately disregarded social boundaries." Therefore, it's our duty to discuss this with the youth and inform them of the importance of these slogans.
This incident at the student prom echoes a racist incident at Easter in a prestigious estate on Sylt. A brief video was shared on social media, capturing the teenagers yelling "Auslaender raus" and "Deutschland den Deutschen" to the track by Gigi D'Agostino. The state security is probing this case. Since then, there have been numerous cases where Nazi slogans were shouted during the same song - for instance in Bavaria and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
