Ofarim trial: Biedermann and hotel manager as witnesses
The trial against Jewish musician Gil Ofarim for defamation and false accusation continues today with a statement from singer and actress Jeanette Biedermann. The musician Gregor Meyle has also been summoned to testify before the Leipzig District Court. The testimony of the hotel manager and a police investigator will follow in the afternoon. According to a court spokesperson, Biedermann and Meyle were not in the hotel, but are said to have had contact with Ofarim shortly afterwards.
The musician had made accusations of anti-Semitism against a Leipzig hotel in a viral video in October 2021. According to the Leipzig public prosecutor's office, however, the incident did not take place in this way. After extensive investigations, Ofarim was charged. The proceedings against the hotel manager were discontinued. The court has scheduled further hearings until December 7.
Biedermann and Meyle hosted the TV show, which Ofarim was in Leipzig to record on October 4, 2021. Afterwards, the alleged anti-Semitic incident took place in the hotel.
During their time in Leipzig, people like singer Jeanette Biedermann and musician Gregor Meyle interacted with Gil Ofarim, despite not being present during the controversial incident at the hotel.
