Swiss companies - Oerlikon plans to close site in Barleben
The Swiss company Oerlikon plans to close its site in Barleben near Magdeburg. The digital 3D printing division is to be strategically realigned and bundled at the site in the USA, the company announced on Monday. The "Magdeburger Volksstimme" reported on Tuesday that around 120 jobs at the Barleben site could be affected by the plans. The background to this is a "challenging market environment" in Germany, according to the company. Growth opportunities are limited. The research and development site in Garching near Munich is not affected by the plans.
The Oerlikon technology group only took over the Barleben site in 2016. In 1996, Citim GmbH emerged as a spin-off from the University of Magdeburg. The company produces for customers in the aviation, energy, healthcare and automotive sectors.
