Frankfurt - Occupation of former print shop continues

The occupation of the former Dondorf printing works in Frankfurt continued on Monday. Eight people were still on the roof of the building, a police spokesperson said in the early afternoon. The occupation by the collective "Die Druckerei" is already the second this year and has been going on for more than a week.

After the police evacuated the interior of the building, a group of activists made their way to the roof. They are calling for the building to be preserved as an industrial and cultural monument. It is to be demolished to make way for a new building. The building belongs to the state of Hesse.

The General Students' Committee (AStA) of the University of Frankfurt accused the police of isolating and besieging the activists and denying them adequate basic supplies of water, medicine, food and blankets. The police operation should be ended immediately.

Security is the top priority, said the police spokesperson. The police have offered to escort the activists safely inside at any time, where they can eat and drink. On Sunday evening, the police explained that the squatters' own danger was increasing after several days on the roof. "The cold, wet conditions and lack of sleep pose a considerable threat to the human organism," they said. Talks with them would continue.
