Weather - Obstructions and accidents due to snow and ice in Hesse
Snowfall and freezing temperatures caused problems for drivers during the evening rush hour on Monday. A spokesperson for the Central Hesse police headquarters spoke of numerous accidents that had occurred almost throughout the entire catchment area. Details of the severity could not yet be given.
The Rhine-Main region was also affected. A police spokeswoman said that an overturned truck blocked traffic on federal highway 455 between the Wiesbaden district of Naurod and Niedernhausen. Also due to the weather, a crane vehicle overturned on a country road near Kelkheim, injuring the driver. There were also other accidents, but most of them were minor.
In Offenbach, in the south-east of the state and in southern Hesse, the police also registered a number of accidents due to wintry road conditions, most of which resulted in material damage. According to a police spokesperson, some of the causes were due to drivers still using summer tires.
