How I solved today's Strands
I first thought about finding items that shield us from heat, like umbrellas or shades.
I noticed POPSICLE in the bottom left corner.

Moving upward, I saw CARNIVAL. Alright, this isn't just about heat relievers; it's about summer activities.
In the center of the puzzle, I spotted the word PEACH. But unfortunately, it doesn't match the theme.
In the upper right corner, there's HOPSCOTCH.
Now, I've narrowed down the location of the spangram, and after some time, I found SUMMER.
Above it lies BEACH.
Above that is CAMP.
Finally, in the bottom right corner, I discovered LEMONADE.
How to play Strands
You can play Strands on the New York Times website. Keep in mind, as it's a new game, it's not fully integrated into the NYT Games app.
When you start Strands, you'll see a game board filled with letters, with a clue that gives an idea of the puzzle's theme. For example, "Better with age." Your task is to find the words within the board that connect to the theme.
A crossword mixed with a word search
The crucial word to identify is the "spangram," which explicitly conveys the puzzle's theme. For instance, for the puzzle with the theme "Better with age," the spangram is FERMENTED. Finding the spangram makes the whole puzzle easier.
In Strands, words can go in any direction (up, down, left, right, or diagonal), and you can only use each letter once. Additionally, there's only one correct solution. Once you correctly identify one of the puzzle's words, like KOMBUCHA, MISO, or KIMCHI, it will be highlighted in blue.
If you're stuck, you can submit any non-theme words (as long as they are four letters or more) for a hint. If you submit three non-theme words, the Hint button will be clickable. If you click it, all the letters in one of the theme words will be highlighted for you. To complete the theme word, you still need to connect the highlighted letters in the correct order. If there's already a hint and you use another one before solving it, the order of the hinted letters will be revealed.
Winning Strands
Different from Connections and Wordle, you can't lose Strands. When you enter guesses, either you'll discover an answer, earn credit toward a hint, or you'll see the text shaking back and forth, signifying that the word you submitted is too short or not valid. There's no limit on guesses or time.
You win when you've correctly used all the letters on the board, meaning you've discovered the spangram and all the theme words. Just like with other NYT games, upon solving the puzzle, you'll see a sharable card displaying your performance: blue dots 🔵 point out theme words you found, the yellow dot 🟡 indicates when you found the spangram, and a lightbulb 💡 shows words that you received a hint for.
