Solving today's Strands
Initially, I begin exploring plant-related terms ("leaf," "flower," etc.).
I test SEED, but it's a non-theme word. I also try PROTEIN, but it also doesn't fit the theme. None of these words are fitting so far, but I'm not rushing to use a hint just yet.
Afterward, SUNLIGHT catches my attention, and things start looking up. 🔵
SPACE follows below that. 🔵

Below that, EARTH is unveiled. 🔵
Here's a solid hint: Are we searching for elements vital to plants' development?
Now, WATER. 🔵
And LOVE lies below. 🔵 (How sweet.)
Finally, this one is the spangram - GARDEN. 🔵
Below that, we have SEEDS. 🔵
To conclude, I spot PROTECTION. 🔵
Playing Strands
Here's how to get started with the game:
Head on over to the New York Times website, where you can find Strands. It's still in its beta phase, so it doesn't yet come with the Games app.
Once you start the game, you'll see a board with letters, along with a clue that provides hints about the puzzle's theme - like "Better with age."
Your objective? Find hidden words that relate to the puzzle's theme.
In Strands, words can be used in any direction, vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. You can only use each letter once. There's only one valid solution. When you correctly guess a word, it will be highlighted in blue.
If you're stuck, you can submit non-theme words you've found (as long as they're at least four letters) to earn hints. If you use three non-theme words, a new "Hint" button will pop up. Clicking it will reveal the letters of one of the theme words, but you'll still need to correctly arrange them. If you've used a hint for a certain word before finding it on your own, the correct order will be shown.
Winning in Strands
Unlike games like Connections and Wordle, there's no way to fail in Strands. You'll be guided when you submit words, either correctly identifying an answer, earning hints, or via the board indicating that your guess is either too short or invalid. You can't run out of attempts, and there's no time limit.
The game ends when you've successfully used all the letters on the board, signifying you've found the spangram and the puzzle's theme words. As in other NYT games, you'll unveil a shareable card displaying your performance for that day: blue dots 🔵 for theme words found, a yellow dot 🔥 for when you find the spangram, and a lightbulb 💡 for words using hints.
