Nursing students will be paid in future

In view of the shortage of skilled workers, the German government wants to make nursing studies more attractive. A new law therefore provides for students to receive remuneration in future. Those who have already started their studies will also benefit.

Nursing students will receive more money in future. The Federal Council has approved a law under which students will in future receive a training allowance for the entire duration of their nursing studies. Until now, nursing students - unlike trainees in the care sector - did not receive any remuneration, even if their studies also included considerable practical work in the care sector.

The Bundestag had already passed the so-called Nursing Studies Strengthening Act in October. The aim of the law is to encourage more people to study nursing and, in the long term, to increase the proportion of academics in nursing training.

As a transitional measure, those who have already started a nursing degree course will also receive a training allowance for the remaining period of study.

The new law aimed at making nursing a more appealing profession by providing students with salary during their studies. This move is expected to have a positive impact on the care system, as the labor market may see an increase in nursing professionals due to the improved financial situation of nursing students.
