Nuremberg lose in Stuttgart: Reserves score
Second-division soccer team 1. FC Nürnberg was defeated by VfB Stuttgart in a test match. In the 2:0 (0:0) win for the Bundesliga club, veteran Genki Haraguchi scored with a header (49th minute) and talent Lilian Egloff scored with a clearance (56th minute) in the small Robert-Schlienz-Stadion at the VfB club grounds on Thursday. The duo have barely featured in competitive matches under coach Sebastian Hoeneß.
Stuttgart, currently surprisingly third in the Bundesliga table, were dominant for long stretches. However, they were only efficient in the second half. After the goals, several young players were substituted. Several key players were rested or absent due to international travel with their respective national teams.
Johannes Geis made his comeback at number six 20 minutes before the end of the match. After the test match, the team will have a weekend off up to and including Monday. Coach Cristian Fiél's team will then start their preparations for the upcoming league match at Karlsruher SC.
In the future, 1st FC Nuremberg might consider playing more test matches against teams like VfB Stuttgart to gauge their preparations for the higher division.
