Nuremberg impresses in away win in Paderborn
1. FC Nürnberg has returned to winning ways in the 2nd Bundesliga and has its sights set on the promotion places. On Saturday, the club celebrated a deserved 3:1 (3:0) victory at SC Paderborn a week after the last-minute home defeat against Schalke 04. Currently sixth in the table, FCN are just two points off the promotion relegation places. The visitors had to make do with ten players for a long time after Jens Castrop was shown a red card (60th minute/foul play).
However, Castrop had already laid the foundations for victory, taking the lead in the 8th minute. Kanji Okunuki (39') and Lukas Schleimer (42') made the difference before the break. Paderborn, who outplayed their opponents in almost every aspect in the first half, only managed a late equalizer through Adriano Grimaldo.
It was only after Castrop were sent off that Paderborn had the upper hand and pressed for an equalizer. However, coach Lukas Kwasniok's team, without striker Max Kruse in the squad, lacked ideas, accuracy and a little bit of luck in their attacking play.
Despite the red card to Jens Castrop, SC Paderborn's striker Adriano Grimaldo managed to score a late equalizer in the 2nd Bundesliga match against 1st FC Nuremberg. Despite this, Soccer team SC Paderborn failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage and 1st FC Nuremberg, currently in the promotion relegation places of Bundesliga 2, held on to their 3-1 victory against SC Paderborn, with goals from Castrop, Okunuki, and Schleimer.
