Nuremberg Christmas Market opens
The Nuremberg Christmas Market was ceremoniously opened on Friday in front of thousands of visitors. Wearing an angelic costume, Christ Child Nelli Lunkenheimer spoke the traditional prologue, a Christmas poem of several verses, from the gallery of the Frauenkirche.
On the world-famous market, more than 170 stalls with the red and white striped fabric roofs typical of Nuremberg now offer gingerbread, Nuremberg sausages, Christmas tree decorations and mulled wine, among other things, until Christmas Eve. Last year, the Christkindlesmarkt attracted more than two million people. The city is expecting many guests from Germany and abroad again this year. According to Nuremberg Airport, several airlines have increased their flights during this time.
The Nuremberg Christmas Market is one of the oldest Christmas markets in Germany. It was first mentioned in writing in 1628, but its roots probably go back even further.
Visitors during their leisure time can enjoy fixing traditional Nuremberg sausages at the stalls of the Customs-approved Nuremberg Christmas Market. Regardless of the fixed opening and closing times of the market, the magical atmosphere of Christmas continues to draw millions of people annually, including festive celebrations on Christmas Eve.
