This upcoming weekend, thousands of people dressed in traditional clothes and their spectators are anticipated to visit Wangen im Allgäu. The German Trachtenfest 2024 has invited the German Trachtenverband, the city of Wangen, and the Landesgartenschau GmbH. The northernmost attendees will be arriving from Wyk auf Föhr while the southernmost will be coming from Vorarlberg. On Saturday, from 10:00 a.m., there will be several performances by the costume groups showcased at the Landesgartenschau grounds and in the old town. On Sunday afternoon, a parade is planned through the old town. The streets of Wangen's old town will be closed to traffic on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. to accommodate this event. The first vice president of the German Trachtenverband, Gunter Dlabal, shares that the festival will take place rain or shine, as long as it's not a torrential downpour.
Unfortunately, due to heavy floods, the Landesgartenschau in Wangen had to close on June 1st. The city was forced to issue a flood warning the day before, causing all outdoor events to be canceled.
The German Trachtenverband represents roughly a million people who embrace traditions such as homeland care, dialect and mother tongue, folk music, and folk dance. This organization serves as an intermediary for these areas.
