Numerous restrictions imposed on pro-Palestinian demonstration
The Berlin police have issued numerous restrictions for a pro-Palestinian demonstration planned for Saturday. According to a police spokeswoman, any statements that are anti-Semitic, anti-Israeli or glorify violence are prohibited. Anyone who denies Israel's right to exist must also expect consequences. The spokesperson emphasized that the police would take consistent action against violations. If the requirements were massively disregarded, the gathering would have to be broken up if necessary.
Several pro-Palestinian groups across Germany have called for the protest march in the capital. According to the police, the organizers were expecting around 2,000 participants. "We are assuming a five-digit number," said the spokesperson. The demonstration is to start at Alexanderplatz at the Neptune Fountain and march past the Humboldt Forum via Unter den Linden, Friedrichstrasse and Leipziger Strasse to Potsdamer Platz.
According to the police spokeswoman, around 1,000 police officers will be out and about throughout the day on missions in connection with the Middle East conflict. Contrary to the demands of the police union, there will be no support from other federal states as in previous days.
