Leading a Life in Its Fullest: Tips for Making It Count - Numerous residents across Lower Saxony reside in solo dwellings.
In the region of Lower Saxony, roughly a quarter of the households consist of a sole inhabitant. These single dwellings, often referred to as one-person households, accounted for 40.3% of all households in the area, as reported by the State Statistical Office in Hannover. With approximately 1.6 million single households, these were the most common living arrangements in Lower Saxony during the previous year. The region as a whole was home to around 8 million inhabitants, residing in a total of 3.9 million households. For the Annual Microcensus, approximately 1% of the population was surveyed. Across Germany, single households held a similar proportion: 40.8%.
Following single households, two-person households represented the second most prevalent living arrangement in Lower Saxony, comprising around 1.3 million households or a share of 34.2%. Next in line were those with three residents, who made up 12% of the households. In 13.6% of the houses, three or more individuals inhabited together, according to the study. The average number of members in a household was two people.
The statisticians noted the presence of regional differences in the distribution of household forms. Single households are typically more common in urban areas than in smaller communities. In particular, Hanover, Braunschweig, Osnabrück, and Wilhelmshaven witnessed a high concentration of single households, with close to 6 out of 10 households in the seaside city of Wilhelmshaven being one-person households. The districts of Vechta, Oldenburg, and Cloppenburg, on the other hand, had fewer one-person households, at approximately 3 out of 10.
