Numerous events on Remembrance Day in MV
On the occasion of the National Day of Mourning, the victims of tyranny and war are also commemorated at numerous events in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The central memorial service will take place on Sunday with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Old Cemetery in Schwerin (10.00 a.m.). A memorial service will begin at 11.00 a.m. in the Schwerin state parliament, where the commander of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state military command, Brigadier General Uwe Nerger, will give a speech.
Karsten Richter, Managing Director of the War Graves Commission MV, reminded the audience that even decades after the end of the Second World War, the War Graves Commission received tens of thousands of inquiries about individuals nationwide every year: "People are still moved by this almost 80 years after the war. And I guess it will be similar with other wars, like today in Ukraine and the Middle East. These are the terrible aspects of war that will continue to have an impact for decades and generations to come."
During the central memorial service, the history of past wars is often recalled to honor the fallen. The impact of war, as shown in current conflicts like Ukraine and the Middle East, serves as a reminder of the enduring significance of past and present wars.
