Number of extremists in Saxony-Anhalt reaches new high

This growth is mainly due to a significant increase in the potential for right-wing extremist individuals as a result of the classification of the AfD Sachsen-Anhalt as a right-wing extremist tendency. The number of right-wing extremists therefore increased from 1270 to approximately 3350.

In the Reichsbürger scene and left-wing extremism, the following also grew. The Constitutional Protection Agency counted around 700 people in the Reichsbürger and self-governing scene in 2023. One third of these are organized in groups such as the Fantasystaat Königreich Deutschland or the Vaterländischer Hilfsdienst. Reichsbürger refer to themselves as subjects of a German Reich, and self-governing individuals deny the existence of the Federal Republic.

The following for the left-extremist scene increased by 13% or 80 people to 680 people. This increase mainly concerns the non-violent spectrum. The number of Islamists was reported to be unchanged at around 400 people.

The classification of the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt as a right-wing extremist tendency led to a significant rise at the highest level of right-wing extremists in Magdeburg, with the number surging from 1270 to approximately 3350. Consequently, the state constitutional protection in Saxony-Anhalt has been strengthening its efforts to combat right-wing extremists and protect the constitution against the threats posed by this growing segment. Moreover, the rise of extremists within the AfD has sparked concerns about the potential infiltration of right-wing extremist ideologies into mainstream politics, a situation that necessitates vigilance and robust measures to safeguard the core values of democracy.
